Growing Girl

January 14th
Today there were many pictures that had a common theme, Skylar. It seems like from the time we got up to the end of the day, there we pictures showing events surrounding her. I decided to take a picture of her beautiful long hair from the back so that she could see it. Boy was she excited and she picked out her favorite to share. Look at those beautiful curls on the bottoms. Some of us can't make our hair do that if we spend hours on it. Here she is hard at work. This girl begs me to make homework for her. Sometimes I just seem so busy so I just photocopy Dustin's and she gets to work. In the beginning I felt a little bad and thought it would effect Dustin but it has actually made it so he wants to feed her passions. Let me explain. This is his way of showing some subtle love. He has a reading log from school. Each day he gets to, or for him has to, read and enter the book. There are many times that Skylar will ask him if she can read his school book. So he decided to ask his teacher if Skylar could have her own reading log. As any teacher would like to encourage a child's desire to read, she agreed. The following day Dustin got her a reading log and went to her classroom next door to get her to come into his class and pick a book. She went over and seemed a little overwhelmed with the attention and said she did not want one. We both knew better. So Dustin picked one for her. That afternoon when Dustin settled down for his homework Skylar asked, "Dustin did you get that Biscuit book for me?" He knows his little sister loves dogs. So rewarding for me to be able to witness this subtle act of love.
Her latest act of independence (01/15). Now I can not take the credit for this one. I have not sat down for hours grueling over how to tie her shoes. Actually the way she attempts to tie them implies she gets some of the info from daddy. So I asked her where she learned it. She said, "I saw it in a book!" Should have figured. She was able to tie it once and it was actually tied. She is still working on it consistantly tying. Not bad considering we did not even attempt to teach Dustin till he was 5 1/2. That was due to a little baby brother coming upon the scene when he was 5.

Hey, I am totally impressed that you have a working sewing machine AND know how to use it. You'll be so happy next December when you pull out the Christmas stuff and its DONE!
