Last week of January

So I thought I would add a few "non-snow" moments from January.

The stack of clothes I told you Dustin folded while I was shoveling the roof. I couldn't find this picture anywhere the other day but here it was...in the February photo folder where these pics all got placed. All is well. 1/29 Filled the "fruit of the Spirit" jar. Exhibiting the fruit of the spirit; love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control will get you a marble, fill it up as a family and do something rewarding as a family. Took the kids bowling with my sister and her family. 1/29

Kamden is able to recite all 9 fruit of God's Spirit. Smart cookie. There is a really cute song that we found that incorporates the verse. The big boys had to sit and keep score. (One witha bad back and the other with the sprained foot.)We finished out the month with Skylar losing her first tooth. When I say losing I do mean losing, as in misplaced. It fell out at school (another reason I never want them to leave, you miss some of that cool stuff.). She went to turn around to show a friend and boom, it was gone. 1/31 We searched for an hour after school, down by the gym, but it was next to impossible with all the rock salt floating around it was like a sea of potential teeth. So she wrote a letter for 'someone who thinks she is special' and put it under her pillow explaining what had happened. This is the letter that she came up with all on her own. Dustin was so excited to try to be the one to put a monetary treat under her pillow. Waking in the wee hours of the morning, he placed 2 blue quarters under her pillow. When she returned to school there was a treat with a note in the area that she had lost it. Someone must think she is special. When I get caught I need only explain that I, indeed do think she is someone special.

Whoo, 2011!

January 1st.....
Ok, so for January this year the topic is SNOW! That was all there was and it was in every conversation people had. But, if you know me well enough, you know I don't complain about snow. 1/13 I know, I am very fortunate to work from home and not have to drive in it. I did, however, have to shovel it from the driveway, the walk ways, the porch, the trampoline, the roof...yes, I did say roof. 1/29 There was so much snow, this year, that roofs were collapsing and ice dams were building. So seeings Adam had sprained his ankle and was medically ordered off ladders, I was elected, by default. 1/13 Everyone pitched in. While I was on the roof shoveling an easily estimated, 3 feet of snow, Dustin held down the fort. He prepared lunch and put the kids down for a nap. I communicated with him via cell phone up on the roof. I was delighted to see that he had voluntarily folded the clean laundry that had been sitting on the couch awaiting my schedule to clear up.

Family Times~December

11/27
Rule in our house...Christmas tree up before my birthday. So we headed out Thanksgiving weekend and got our tree. Free ride, Dustin.11/28

Getting the tree up inspired the next thing on the Christmas checklist...Christmas card photos. Now anyone with three kids, knows this is not always the easiest of ventures. But I was insistant that I wanted to try. Here are a few of those shots.

Kamden is squeezing his own cheeks to smile as Skylar had just shown him to do.

Thankful for digital cameras and happy children.

12/12

Gingerbread houses are so fun and there is always plenty of scraps of candy laying around these parts. So we lay them out and we go to town. Should have known our little puppy lover would have had a peppermint dog in hers. (He's got the yellow, gum drop head and the red, twizzler tail on the right side of the walkway.) As for Kamden's...he's got termites. There was no frosting left inside his to hold the walls up. He built it and before I could take pictures he was licking the spackle off the walls. 12/18
My mother-in-law and her husband have started taking the big kids out for a birthday dinner. I know my birthday is a hard time of year to schedule around, but she always does a nice job letting you know you are loved and thought about. This was a fun night. And surprised we got all faces in one shot. That's all we got was one shot. Kids were squished against the table, adults were trying to save them, and the camera was balanced on a pizza box. Fun.

12/19

Family picture in front of the tree. So blessed to have such a wonderful family, a home to call our own, but most of all the favor of the Lord. Happy Birthday, Sweet Jesus. What a sweet reminder, from Skylar, of what Christmas is. With her brightly colored, squared edged legos, she was still able to capture the precious moments of baby Jesus in the manger.
12/23

Still keeping with tradition, and adding the kids' handprints to the family tree skirt. It has been through a few tough days. But each taped up, smeared, patched space has a story to go with it...
Adam is no longer allowed to vaccum in December. Love you. 12/24

Excited to have started a new tradition with our Christmas Eve group. We sang two of my favorite Christmas carols, O Holy Night and Do You Hear What I Hear? Each member of my family was so cooperative and sang against their wills. Good thing I don't know how to put videos on here yet. Don't worry, I'll learn.

12/25

Christmas morning with that family. Skylar was so excited that she picked out this scarf for me. She helped Kamden pick out a matching pair of gloves for me since I had torn mine when I tripped and fell one night at her gymnastics. Such thoughtfulness in her giving.
One of my favorite Christmas memories, for this yea,r would be family rock band concerts. Dustin has been singing Eye of the Tiger for years and knows the lyrics by heart. So what a treat when Grandma and Grandpa Sherwood joined in to sing it with us Christmas morning.Fun to see Dustin break out of his shell. Skylar and Kamden took turns beating daddy's fingers as he helped them be the drummer. Grandma took her turn singing and Grandpa played the guitar. All were smiles.

After Christmas morning at our house with the "traveling Grandparents" for the year, we head on over to the other side and get to spend time with Adam's siblings and other set of parents. The kids are getting older now and it is nice to see them play with eachother.
12/27

Snow, snow, snow. Happy to have daddy home for a snow day. Blessed to be fortunate enough to trust the Lord to take care of our finances while we take a day to play.

With Kamden's asthma rearing it's nasty head... we are learning some much needed tricks in order to let him stay in the fun. We have found that the extreme dry, cold, winter air is hard on him. So cover his nose and mouth and he is good as new. New Year's Eve...we went to dad and Joan's. The kids decided to start a snowball fight on the way out. Fun to see everyone enjoying the snow. Little did we know what was to come for the season. "Who's my target now? Watch out grandpa G.G."

But the angel said to them, 'Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.'
Luke 2:10,11

Fall ...

A time to get outside in the cool of the days. A time to capture the beauty of the Lord. This one is a time to capture a loving moment among siblings. 11/11 One of my favorite times of year...and one of my favorite reasons for it... leaves, leaves, leaves. Whether on the ground, in the trees, or just plain piled with kids. I think fall is beautiful. Thank you, Lord for the change in seasons. 11/12 We stopped at a local school on the way to visiting a few friends playing football. I just sit back and soak it all in, that this little girl is getting so big. The denial is quickly headed up against picking out her own clothes, desiring for her hair to be worn a certain way on a given day. This day it was a straighten it day. The accomplishments of what she can do on a gymnastics floor, yes, even that comes to mind since she had no problem doing a back bend over the outdoor balance beam in this dress. Silly girl. 11/14

With multiple families, and some living miles apart, my mom decided years ago that she would host Thanksgiving dinner the week before the rest of the world. It works well for us so that we don't have to choose which side of the family will get you which year. (And since there are 3 sides, it would make it even more challenging to not offend or skip someone.) So Brandi and I bring our families up to Nana and Papa's. It is fun, laid back times with plenty of laughs. Here are all 5 of the grandkids together. 11/21

Freezing cold or not someone always makes a trip down to the stream. Dustin was happier to be sitting on this log that crossed the stream rather than walking it.

This year we were at Deb and Rob's for Thanksgiving dinner. What a beautiful job she does, from table settings to homemade bird feeders, she always puts so much thought into our gatherings. The kids always enjoy time with cousins and once in awhile they even stop to see us adults for a minute. 11/25Sometimes it seems to take forever (for the kids) to get to the time of day that we are asked to arrive. So before dinner the boys decide to turn into undie monsters and tickle Skylar. Hey, tickling makes the time go faster, right? 11/25This was a very sad day in my books...I am sure the picture speaks for itself. That crib had been set up for over 7 years and 7 months straight. 11/26

October 2010

Didn't want to miss these fun moment... These two decided to make hats out of the hemmings off of my jeans. The sad part is that there was enough coming off the legs of my pants to make hats out of. They even wore them to school. Ha, explain that one to everyone you come into contact with in the mornings. Funny boys. 10/19

Oh, the love Skylar has for her baby brother and the love he has, in return, for his big sister...Skylar was so happy to see that Kamden was able to join her for her Buell's field trip. 10/20 Going to toss in a couple more of these because I just can't resist. Harvest party costumes when we went to show them off to the grandparents. I always welcome a snowflake especially when it is a sweet as this one... Is this not one of the sweetest, most lovable spiders you ever laid eyes on?
